Iga Swiatek has won her first title since losing the World No.1 spot in a big statement at the
China Open in Beijing defeating Liudmila Samsonova in the final 6-2, 6-2.
Swiatek hasn't won a WTA 1000 either since Rome in 2022 so adds her first since then in the final mandatory tournament of the season before she will play the WTA Finals.
After losing in the Last 16 at the US Open, she lost the World No.1 spot and from there lost to Veronika Kudermetova in Tokyo which raised eyebrows given the Head to Head.
But she has bounced back superbly including handing Coco Gauff her first defeat as US Open champion and sending out a statement to the rest of the top names that she is very much still towards her best.
Swiatek took advantage of the slower conditions with Samsonova's power taken away. After five holds to open the match, Samsonova double faulted on break point to give Swiatek the lead.
Swiatek as she often does used that to heap the pressure on even further and hit zero unforced errors in the opening set sealing the lead in business like fashion.
From there, the serve continued to prove dominant as she did not face a break point against Samsonova and played superb aggressive tennis. After breaking for a 3-1 lead, she extended her lead to 4-1 and on her first match point capped off a dominant 69 minute display in Beijing.
