Eugenie Bouchard has found a rather unusual way to stay connected with her fans since stepping away from professional tennis, with her followers now playing an active role in her dating life. The former world No. 5 recently opened up about the experience, explaining how what started as a personal search for a relationship quickly became something of a shared project.
Bouchard officially retired from professional tennis in 2025, closing the door on a career that included a Wimbledon final, Grand Slam semifinals at the Australian Open and Roland Garros, and a career-high ranking of No. 5. Her final professional appearance came in her hometown of Montreal, where she lost to Belinda Bencic at the Canadian Open.
Since retirement, the Canadian has remained involved in tennis through media work and appearances, while also giving fans more insight into her life away from the court. Her latest update focused on a very different part of that life, with her recent dating experience becoming a major topic among her followers.
Rather than keeping the process entirely private, Bouchard allowed her audience to help shape it, from choosing photos and profile prompts to offering advice ahead of the date. What followed was an experience she now describes as something that involved far more than just herself.
Bouchard's dating life becomes a fan project
Bouchard explained that her followers helped her put together her dating profile, including the prompts she used to show more of her personality. The experience quickly became more public than she had expected.
“If you’ve been following my stories, you know that September has been a lot. Obviously the US Open was a highlight and then came my dating life, which somehow became a group project with all of you guys," Bouchard said in an Instagram story. "I’m not dating, we’re dating. I let you guys edit my profile, pick my photos, weigh in on my prompts, and help me plan the date so I feel like we need to debrief."
The former tennis star said the advice also helped her move beyond the standard conversations that often come with online dating, while her followers continued to offer recommendations once the date was arranged.
“Helped me pick prompts that showed my personality, which helped me have interesting convos instead of just ‘Hey. What’s up?’ Then came the actual date, you guys sent me so many recommendations,” she added.
The unusual experience comes during a new stage of Bouchard's life after more than a decade competing at the highest level. Her 2014 season remains the defining year of her career, when she reached the Australian Open and French Open semifinals before making the Wimbledon final.
There was a second date
The biggest question for her followers was what happened after the first date. Bouchard acknowledged that it had become one of the questions she was asked most often, and her answer suggested the story is not over yet.
“The question I keep getting asked, ‘Was there a second date?’ There was. And I am cautiously optimistic,” the Canadian said. “What I learned throughout this dating process is to truly be my authentic self because we want someone to like us for us, right? Crazy thought."
After years of Grand Slam pressure and life on the WTA Tour, Bouchard's latest chapter is very different. But with a second date already confirmed, her followers now have another reason to keep watching.
