Czech Republic’s tennis star
Karolina Muchova has revealed
that she is set to return to court after recovering from a wrist injury. The 27-year-old has spent 10 months on the sidelines after
suffering a serious wrist injury. However, the wait is now set to end as Muchova
has confirmed that she is fit enough to return to the court.
The Olomouc-born also confirmed that she will participate in the Paris Olympics and is looking to prepare well for
Wimbledon 2024. The third Grand Slam of the year will begin from July 01 whereas Paris Olympics will star from July 26.
"At the end of this week, I'll fly to Eastbourne with
the team where we'll finally try to play some matches in preparation ahead of
Wimbledon," she said. "After Wimbledon I'll return back to the clay,
maybe play a tournament, or straight to the Olympics. I'm really excited for
the Olympics. I've never been to one, and it's around the corner in Paris, so I
can't be more excited."
It will be interesting to see how Muchova performs at Wimbledon, as she has not played in any Grand Slam in the last 18 months. Her last appearance in a major event was the US Open, where she lost in the semifinal to America’s Coco Gauff in straight sets, 6-4, 7-5.
Before getting injured, Muchova was arguably going through the best phase of her career, as the 2022 season was the best in her career. She played her maiden and, till now, the only Grand Slam final in 2022 as well as she finished as the runner-up in the French Open after losing to the current world number one Poland’s Iga Swiatek with a score of 6–2, 5–7, 6–4.
Before that, Muchova also played in the semifinal of the
Australian Open in 2021, where she lost to America’s Jennifer Brady in straight sets
with a score of 6-4, 3-6, 6-4.
