Spain’s tennis star
Paula Badosa has responded to a fan who asked why she and her boyfriend
Stefanos Tsitsipas are not honouring their own words about keeping their relationship private. The two have been dating for a long time and are already considered one of the power couples in tennis.
The two broke off just before the French Open but got back
together a few weeks later. When the two got back together, Badosa stated in an
interview that she and Tsitsipas have decided to keep their relationship ‘personal’
as the first time, it was very public. "He already explained and I have
nothing else to say, I mean, it's our private life,” she said back then. “I
think one of the things that we didn't like is that it was very public, so now
we want to keep it to ourselves. We know it's not going to be easy because we
are two public people so people will ask, but we want to keep it more to
ourselves."
On August 17, a video appearance on the Tennis TV account on the
social media platform X — previously known as Twitter — where the two can be
seen stretching in the gym together while holding their hand. A fan on X commented
below the video and pointed out why the two are not honouring their words. “When they got back together, they said, " I mean, it's our private life. I think
one of the things that we didn't like is that it was very public, so now we
want to keep it to ourselves." So why don't they,” the fan wrote.
In response, Badosa stated that, unfortunately, the two were not aware that there were cameras in the gym. “Unfortunately, we didn’t know there were cameras there. I just finished my match, nobody was in the gym, we were just stretching and chatting after my win. So please, before all this judgement and talking, inform yourselves and chill a bit. Thanks,” she wrote.
Tsitsipas’ journey in the
Cincinnati Open came to an end in
the round of 32 as he lost to Britain’s Jack Draper with a score of 3-6, 6-4,
7-5. On the other hand, Badosa is still very much alive in the campaign as she
has booked her place in the semifinal after beating Russia’s Anastasia
Pavlyuchenkova in the last-eight clash in straight sets with a score of 6-3,
6-2. She will face America’s Jessica Pegula, who booked her spot in the last-four
after beating Canada’s Leylah Fernandez in the quarterfinal with a score of 7-5,
6-7, 7-6.
