Anett Kontaveit ended Bianca Andreescu's run towards a title defence at the BNP Paribas Open in
Indian Wells and after the match, she spoke just how close it was.
Kontaveit played a very good match against Bianca Andreescu who did not have her best but still proved rather resilient in the match. It was played in very windy conditions as the Estonian adjusted much better than Andreescu who failed to find a sweet spot between aggression and patience.
Kontaveit said:
"It was extremely close throughout the match and I was just trying to stay tough. I was ready for a tough match. She's such a good player, such a great competitor, so I knew it wasn't going to be over until it was really over."
Kontaveit is enjoying a resurgence in the past several weeks winning 15 of the last 16 matches she played. The positive change could be attributed to a new coach with Dmitry Tursunov taking over the reins as her coach. On the surge she said:
"I've really been enjoying being out here, really enjoying playing competitive matches and I've been having a lot of fun- I think that's been the key, and of course, Dmitry has helped a lot, too."
