Maria Sakkari had a very late finish at the Madrid Open as she took down native player Masarova after midnight but she wasn't too happy despite the win.
Sakkari has been struggling this year for much of it unable to find the form she had last year.
The Greek is now back on clay, a surface where she generally had good results but she's still not quite happy with the way things are going despite reaching the last 16 at the Madrid Open. Speaking after the match, Sakkari blatantly said she wasn't happy with the way she played:
“I’m not too happy about the way I played, it was survival. The most important thing is that I found a way, but I have to improve my game for the next matches, it will not be enough for the next opponents. I have to go back to training tomorrow and try to find my game.”
Up next is Badosa and on that, Sakkari said:
“She is one of the best players in the world. She plays at home, she plays very well. She’s motivated and that’s normal when you’re playing in a tournament in your country. From now on the matches will be more and more difficult, I expect a tough match”.
Badosa has been playing really superb tennis from the start of the event and it will take Sakkari a good effort to win that match.
