Iva Jovic did not play today at the
Bad Homburg Open with her spot taken last minute by Renata Zarazua who faced Wang Xinyu, the original opponent of Jovic.
It was quite an easy win for Wang Xinyu who managed to steamroll past Zarazua to win the first match of the day 6-1, 6-2. Even quicker than Clara Tauson who is still battling with Diana Shnaider and looked on course for a simple win here.
But Jovic had to pull out with an ankle injury and has not played since suffering said injury at Queen's when she faced off against Emma Raducanu two weeks ago. Ironically having beaten Amanda Anisimova during that run, both are touch and go for Wimbledon now.
Anisimova and Jovic doubts for Wimbledon?
Anisimova has gone home to the US and come back to the UK since playing in London and has started practicing ahead of Wimbledon. But Jovic has tried to plough on and play. She has withdrawn from Nottingham though last week after the 18-year-old could've been seen as quite a big coup for the event given she is on the rise towards the top 10.
But she then went on to Bad Homburg where she hasn't played anyway and now can be seen as a doubt for Wimbledon whether she is merely pulling out due to precaution or not.
An intriguing time for some of the top lead American lights with Jovic and Anisimova doubts for Wimbledon, Pegula losing the Berlin final. While Gauff is one with lesser question marks but hasn't played a great deal since Paris. So from quite a strong core to one which is interesting to say the least.
