Markéta Vondrousova has received massive support from fellow players across social media after news of her suspension, becoming the central figure in one of the most widely discussed disciplinary cases in recent women’s tennis.
The 2023 Wimbledon champion has triggered a tour-wide reaction following the International Tennis Integrity Agency (ITIA) confirmation of a four-year sanction linked to an alleged anti-doping testing violation in December 2025.
The ITIA stated that Vondrousova did not comply with an out-of-competition test on 3 December, an incident that triggered formal proceedings before an independent tribunal. The Czech player has denied any wrongdoing and has maintained that she never tested positive for a banned substance during her career.
According to the official case summary, the dispute centres on whether correct testing procedures were followed and whether the player’s refusal to allow entry to the testing official constituted a violation of anti-doping rules. Vondrousova argued that the official did not properly identify herself, while the tribunal ultimately upheld the breach, citing the importance of maintaining the integrity of the testing system.

Massive player reaction: Gauff, Jabeur and Badosa among those voicing support

Following Vondrousova's public statement, reaction across the WTA Tour was immediate and extensive, with a significant number of top players expressing support on social media. Coco Gauff, Ons Jabeur and Paula Badosa were among the most prominent names to react, joining a wider group of active and former top-10 players.
Jabeur’s response carried additional visibility given her sporting connection to Vondrousova, as the two faced each other in the 2023 Wimbledon final, where the Czech player claimed her first Grand Slam title.

Other players who publicly engaged with the statement included Marta Kostyuk, Anna Kalinskaya, Iva Jovic, Katie Boulter, Maria Sakkari, Sorana Cîrstea, Sloane Stephens, Coco Gauff and Eva Lys, among others.
Support also came from Czech players, with Linda Nosková, Karolína Muchová and Tereza Valentová among those reacting to the situation. The domestic response highlighted the national significance of Vondroušová’s case, given her status as one of the country’s most prominent Grand Slam champions in recent years.
Vondroušová herself has strongly denied any intent to breach anti-doping rules, stating that she has consistently tested negative throughout her career and describing the period since the incident as one marked by emotional strain and uncertainty.
“I have never doped,” she wrote on her social media.. “I have never had a positive test. Throughout my entire career, I have undergone countless anti-doping controls and have always stepped onto the court with a clear conscience. Just three days after the incident that ultimately changed my life, I was tested again. “The result was negative, just like every test before it.”
“A time when I had to open up my private life in ways most people would only share with their closest loved ones. A time when I did everything in my power to show that I had nothing to hide. I cooperated. I answered every question. I provided everything that was asked of me. I testified before the tribunal and did my best to explain what happened. I gave it everything I had. Every bit of my energy, strength, and belief.
“One of the hardest things was coming to terms with the fact that the future of the career I had spent my entire life building was no longer in my hands. All the while, you hope that the truth will be enough. That everything will be explained. That if you are honest, cooperative, and do everything you can, it will be enough. But sometimes it isn’t.”
