Iga Swiatek won her maiden grand slam at the French Open last year and while the Polish player failed to win another one she is content with her success after that.
It's been an interesting year for Iga Swiatek on the 2021 tour as she was able to win over 30 matches this year as well as winning two titles. One of those was the 2021 Rome Masters where she destroyed Karolina Pliskova 6-0 6-0 in less than an hour. She also reached at least the 4th round of all 4 majors she played which is enough for her to be content with her post-major success.
She said:
“For sure I’m pretty happy that I’ve reached my goals that we had at the beginning. I didn’t know what to expect, playing as a Grand Slam champion, it’s always something tricky."
After getting over the initial nerves of being a major winner on the Tour she settled in nicely rarely suffering a crushing defeat early in an event:
“[From there] I think I kind of understood how it is playing as a Slam champion. It’s not that bad when you’re just focusing on the game and on tennis. You’re doing what you’ve done for the past 10 years of your life."
Swiatek is now sitting at a career high ranking of number 4 ready to take on the challenge of the WTA Finals. Asked about her overall sentiment she said:
“So, basically I’m pretty happy that I’ve also been consistent throughout this whole season and that was my goal. Hopefully, in the next seasons, I’ll be able to raise my level. We’ll see how my game develops.”
