Alexander Zverev never went past the 4th round at the BNP Paribas Masters in Indian Wells and the German hopes his recent form will propel him to do that.
It's been a great few months for Alexander Zverev on the court who captures some titles as well nearly defeating Novak Djokovic at the US Open. Upon arrival in Indian Wells, he spoke to the media expressing his deep desire to do much better here than before. He never went past the 4th round and he hopes he can do it this year:
“I’m coming here in very good form. And I hope that I can continue the form that I have. I played the fourth round here against Rafa [Nadal], I had the match point in 2016. I was 18 years old back then. Since then I haven’t reached a fourth round again. So, I hope that I can obviously go past the fourth round this year.”
The BNP Paribas Masters remains the only ATP 1000 event where Zverev has failed to reach the semifinals but Zverev believes himself capable especially with the different conditions this year. Usually, the event is played in March when it's a bit cooler than now which he also noted:
“It’s an interesting week because we’re not used to playing in this heat here in Indian Wells. Normally it’s a lot cooler, conditions are very different. But, I think everybody needs to adjust and to be honest, it’s going to be a very interesting tournament.”
