Tunisian trailblazer
Ons Jabeur moved one step closer to winning her maiden Grand Slam, brushing past the resurgent
Caroline Garcia to reach the final of the
US Open.
Jabeur recorded a 6-1 6-3 victory over her French opponent, taking advantage of her improved first serve. The fifth seed won 19 of 23 points behind her first serve, in addition to hitting eight aces.
Conversely, Garcia seemed shaky to begin the opening set, hitting just five winners to 14 unforced errors. The former World No.4 had been on a tear over the past month, accumulating a 13-match winning streak which began when she lifted the trophy in Cincinnati. However, her impressive run came to an end as Jabeur proved to be too much, employing a great first serve with a variety of spins to negate the Frenchwoman's power.
Jabeur never faced a break point, while converting on all four opportunities created to end proceedings after just an hour and 6 minutes. Following her amazing run to the Wimbledon final in July, the Tunisian has now made two consecutive Grand Slam finals. She will face the winner between World No.1
Iga Swiatek and sixth seed
Aryna Sabalenka, with both women vying to reach their first final at Flushing Meadows.
