Ons Jabeur will have a chance to win her maiden WTA 1000 trophy as she sailed past Ekaterina Alexandrova into the Madrid Open final 6-2 6-3.
The Tunisian player announced that she returned to Madrid for revenge believing herself capable of winning the event after a strong showing last year. Well, she's only one match away as she took down qualifier Alexandrova in the semifinal. Jabeur was quite lucky with the draw getting Alexandrova so late especially since the Russian is not a very good clay player.
She did play excellently all week long but Jabeur is a much better player and she proved it. Her determination was visible in her match against Halep where Ons dominated the Romanian from start to finish. Things were quite similar in this matchup as Jabeur once again established herself as the better player early. She served poorly but played with variety and struck the ball rather cleanly.
The first set finished with 6-2 and it gave her even more confidence heading into the 2nd set. Alexandrova played a bit better as well but she simply had no chance as she faced the better player. The Tunisian finished it off with 6-3 to move on to the final where she will face either Teichmann or Pegula.
