Lorenzo Musetti had a brilliant week in Madrid but today against Zverev he got unlucky injuring his leg and retiring from the match.
Musetti opened the match comfortable winning his first couple of service game without many issues. Zverev followed it up with a similar outcome and we seemed to be in for a very good and long match. Zverev started to play better and better and eventually, he did find some solutions for Musetti, especially on return. He took a 5-3 lead and Musetti injured himself during one of the slides at that time.
The Italian was seen grimacing in pain trying to shake it off but it was clear his movement was compromised. Zverev smartly attacked the corners pulling him to the sides and finished off the opening set with another break. Musetti took an MTO receiving a massage and heavy bandaging on it. He played one more game but he could not run at all.
After Zverev won that first game without dropping a point, Musetti opted to retire with Rome next week coming up. It did not seem terrible but he would probably like to be ready for Rome so he opted to not make it worse.
