American tennis star Jessica Pegula kicked off her birthday festivities with an easy victory at the 2025 ATX Open Austin, as she resumes the hunt for her first title this season.
The Buffalo native faced Spaniard Nuria Parrizas Diaz in the second round in Austin, recording a dominant 6-1 6-3 victory. Prior to squaring off against Parrizas Diaz, Pegula had cruised past Dutch star Arantxa Rus in the opening round.
The World No.4 is the only top 10 WTA star to compete at the ATX Open this year. Nonetheless, she gifted herself a pleasant birthday gift as she turned 31 years old on February 24.
Pegula came close to winning her first title of the season at the Adelaide International in January, where she lost to eventual Australian Open champion Madison Keys in the final. After a third round showing at Melbourne, the American made a quarterfinal appearance in Doha and a round of 16 exit at the Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships.
With Russian Diana Shnaider the only other top 50 player in the field at the ATX Open, perhaps this will be the tournament where Pegula clinches her first title of the young season.
