It is the week of career firsts in the WTA Rankings as Aryna Sabalenka hangs on as World No.1 heading towards Indian Wells but it is Madison Keys and Mirra Andreeva who steal the spotlight after reaching their best yet.

Jasmine Paolini falling in her Dubai title defense in the third round last week means she stutters and dips to World No.6 in the new WTA Rankings. This has had a domino effect when it comes to top Americans as now Jessica Pegula shuffles from World No.5 to World No.4. Keys despite not playing since the Australian Open triumph is up to World No.5.

This means a top five debut for the 30-year-old who has shown with her maiden Grand Slam that it is never too late to find herself fighting at the business end of the rankings. That of course being an extreme with a certain Mirra Andreeva who won the Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships.

A phenom of a player who at 17 is still prohibited by the age eligibility rules at least until Madrid where she celebrates her 18th birthday so she has ascended into the top 10 based on the limited results she has managed to accrue.

She jumped from World No.14 to World No.9 making her top 10 debut after capturing the biggest title of her career adding to her sole win in Iasi last season. She was the youngest woman to win the title in the tournament's history dating back to 2001 and is the youngest woman or tennis player regardless of gender to break into the top 10 since Nicole Vaidisova back in 2006. She was 17 years, 3 months old when she cracked the top 10.

Andreeva is a lot further down the line and is only three months from being 18 but has shown that the hype is very much real surrounding her. Ironically with her 18th birthday coming up at the same time as her breakout at the Madrid Open two years ago, a stark rise since then and certainly not a flash in the pan by any means.

Clara Tauson despite final defeat also continues to gain traction.
Clara Tauson despite final defeat also continues to gain traction.

Clara Tauson has battled promise and perhaps not fulfilling said promise at times but is finally delivering on it now. She surged from World No.38 to World No.23 in today's WTA Rankings. She had a previous high of World No.33.

After winning Auckland earlier in the year in auspicious circumstances given that Naomi Osaka had to suddenly retire injured seemingly en route to the title, Tauson lost out to Andreeva but continues to rise and cement herself as a player to watch just coming up against a machine in the Russian.

Kalinskaya falls as Bencic, Raducanu, Kenin and Parks rise

Last year's finalist Anna Kalinskaya like Jasmine Paolini fell this week. She lost in the first round and slipped 15 spots to World No.34 while Marketa Vondrousova also slips going down seven spots to World No.46.

Kalinskaya will head this next week to Merida Open Akron in order to try and gain some of those points back. She played Singapore earlier in the season but had to exit in the latter stages injured but showed that she can excel in these lower tournaments still. So with a route needed back, she will hope to find her way through this avenue over the next week.

Sofia Kenin resurged in Dubai after receiving a wildcard and lost in the Quarter-FInals. She is back inside the World's top 50. While Emma Raducanu moved up six spots despite losing in the second round harrowingly to Karolina Muchova where a fan took centre stage in making her uncomfortable and sent her into tears.

But she now sits in World No.55. Belinda Bencic is now into the top 60 after moving up another eight spots. She is in a similar predicament to Raducanu as last year albeit she has already won a title on return where now a higher echelon ranking return seems likely as she defends very little points.

Finally Alycia Parks rose up 13 spots to World No.61. She came through qualifying and lost out to Sorana Cirstea in the second round. But some much needed points and a ranking rise for the American who has stalled after her initial breakthrough.
