Greek tennis star Stefanos Tsitsipas booked his spot in the quarterfinals of the Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships on Wednesday, setting a new ATP record in the process.

The fourth seed battled past a resilient Karen Khachanov in their round of 16 encounter, shelving a second set comeback by the Russian to record a 7-6(4) 2-6 6-4 victory. Tsitsipas will face the resurgent Matteo Berrettini for a spot in the final four, after the Italian defeated Australian Chris O'Connell to secure his spot in the quarterfinals.

Tsitsipas sets new record with win over Khachanov

The former World No.3's win over his Russian opponent was his 350th win on the main draw of the ATP Tour. This victory places the Greek star in rare company, as he becomes the first player born in 1998 or later (under 27 years old) to amass 350 wins on the ATP circuit.

The Athens native has come close to winning a Grand Slam title, but has been unable to seal the deal, losing in both the 2021 French Open final and the 2023 Australian Open final. German tennis star Alexander Zverev, born in 1997, is also yet to win a Grand Slam title although the World No.2 currently sits with 475 match wins on the main draw of the ATP circuit.
