Fans of Jessica Pegula can breathe a sign of relief as the American confirmed she did not sustain any serious injuries during her short stint at the 2025 Madrid Open.
The fourth seed looked impressive in her 6-2 6-2 opening round win over German Eva Lys. However, Pegula suffered a shocking defeat to Japan's Moyuka Uchijima, as the rising star recorded a stunning 6-3 6-2 win over the experienced American.

Due to the nature of the lopsided defeat, fans began speculating on whether Pegula had sustained an injury during the match. The World No.4 appeared sluggish during the match, and was unable to counter her opponent's exceptional play.
However, Pegula would take to her Instagram Stories the following day and dispel any rumors of her being hurt during the match.
"It’s been an interesting few weeks for me," wrote Pegula. “Struggling with a few injuries. Quick trip home to get healthy for Rome. Just getting stuck in Newark for 8 hours to get home at 3am stood in my way."
The 31-year old has admitted to struggling with some minor ailments during the 2025 season, but appears ready to resume her quest for a third title this season as she heads over to Italy for the Rome Open.

Growing up in a household where soccer was king, my earliest memories are filled with chants from packed stadiums and the rhythm of a ball being passed across neighborhood streets. But somewhere along the way, the quiet elegance and raw emotion of tennis pulled me in. What began as a curiosity became a lifelong passion; not just for the sport itself, but for the stories it tells: of grit, of heartbreak, of improbable comebacks and human resilience.
As a tennis writer, I bring the observational lens of someone who didn’t grow up in the sport, but fell in love with it as an outsider; a perspective that lets me see both its technical beauty and its emotional depth. Over the years working with TennisUpToDate, I’ve had the privilege of reaching more than 3.5 million readers worldwide, with one of my features ranking among the site’s top three articles.
With a background in storytelling and a creative mind always searching for meaning beyond the scoreboard, I aim to craft narratives that go deeper than results and rankings. Whether it’s a rising star breaking through or a veteran fighting off Father Time, I try to capture the heartbeat behind the headlines.
