The race to the
WTA Finals is heading slowly towards its conclusion with
Jessica Pegula among those set to head to Cancun between 29 October - 5 October. This was due to her run to the final of Toray Pan Pacific Open in Tokyo.
Pegula takes the fifth spot with only three more set to be taken. It marks the continuation of one of the most consistent players on the WTA Tour qualifying for a second year in a row.
She joins Aryna Sabalenka, Iga Swiatek and Coco Gauff in qualifying for another year, with Elena Rybakina rubber stamping her debut after missing out last year due to a lack of points given out at Wimbledon.
Marketa Vondrousova sits part of a pack that will fight for the final spots. Those being Karolina Muchova who will not play in Beijing so holds on narrowly by twenty one points to her compatriot.
Ons Jabeur has put some distance between herself and Maria Sakkari due to winning in Ningbo. But if anyone is likely to force their way in, it will be the Greek who won in Guadalajara and reached the semi-final in Tokyo. A player in form and has advantage over the chasing pack with a few not playing in Beijing over the next week.
This means that the line-up is nearly complete and Pegula will add to that likely in singles and doubles alongside Gauff after they did double duty last year.
