Karolina Pliskova advanced to the National Bank Open Montreal semifinal after thrashing
Sara Sorribes Tormo 6-4 6-0.
Karolina Pliskova made a comeback to the top of worlds tennis at this years Wimbledon advancing to the final and playing Barty pretty close. Proving that run was not a fluke the Czech player is continuing to play dominant tennis in Montreal as well.
Sara Sorribes Tormo is known as a very tough matchup for a lot of players due to her unconventional style of play as well as overall fighting spirit. None of that troubled Pliskova today who was bombarding away from the baseline. She lost her serve twice in the first set and it didn't matter.
She still won it with 6-4 after breaking Sorribes Tormo three times. The Czech player continued to play well in the 2nd set even improving especially when serving which allowed her to trash Sorribes Tormo once more. Once again she broke her opponent three times but this around she did not lose her serve.
All of that contributed to a 2nd set bagel 6-0 but true to the fighting spirit of Sorribes Tormo it was a lengthy bagel at 31 minutes. Pliskova was the better player by far and the Spanish player had no answer. She lacked power in her strokes and only won two points on serve in the 2nd set.
A well-deserved win for Pliskova who moves on to the semifinal where she will be a tough opponent with the level of tennis she is showing in Montreal.
