Sofia Kenin didn't allow rain to disrupt her as she advances at the
Roland Garros while Vekic goes home after a bad loss to Irina Bara.
Sofia Kenin stepped onto the court today to face Samsonova in her first-round matchup at Roland Garros. She started off well breaking Samsonova early to take a lead but she would forfeit it a few games later. She broke her once more but once again could not hold her own serve. At 4-4 she broke Samsonova for the 3rd time and finally won her own game to clinch the set 6-4.
The 2nd set was a mixed bag for Kenin who struggled immensely before and after the rain break. The play was resumed two hours after it stopped and Kenin continued to struggle losing it 6-3. The final one continued with early struggles as Kenin went down 2-0. She would fight back to 2-2 giving herself the confidence to take over the match which she did late in the set breaking Samsonova at 4-3 before ending the match with 6-3.
Donna Vekic stepped onto the court as well to play against Irina Bara from Romanian and the Croatian disappointed her fans. Her performance was shaky from the start allowing the Romanian to break her twice in the first set which she lost 6-3. Rain paused this match as well and many thought it would help Vekic calm down and find some confidence. It didn't as she looked even worse in the 2nd set with the end result being 6-4. If it weren't for a late push the result could have looked much worse.
