Did that "Come On" make it across the ocean, USA? Danielle Collins wins the second set to push a decider! #RolandGarros
Sofia Kenin had to play three sets once more but again it didn't matter as she won against Collins to reach her first Roland Garros semifinal.
The all-American clash between Kenin and Collins drew many eyeballs towards the Roland Garros especially from the States where the match caused a lot of buzz. While it didn't dissapoint it didn't give the ending many hoped as Kenin finished the match in just under two hours 6-4 4-6 6-0 to reach her first Roland Garros quarterfinal.
The first set started off with both of them serving rather well and winning their own games. Collins looked more unsure at the start but she fended off the first break points she faced. However, it didn't take Kenin long to break Collins as she did so in the next game. From there it was a steady climb towards the first set victory but Kenin successfully did it clinching the opening set 6-4.
The 2nd set saw a bit more action than the first set as both of them upped their game. Kenin broke Collins first in the exact same game as in the first set but Collins fought immediately back to make it 3-3. From there on it was a strong display from both of them but Kenin dipped a bit in the final game of the 2nd set. She allowed Collins several breakpoints which she took to win the set 6-4. Despite the victory, she seemed to be in quite a bit of discomfort while playing. That discomfort caused a dip in her winner numbers which totalled only 6 in the 2nd set while the errors were at 14.
At the start of the final set, Collins dropped off a cliff with Kenin winning all the longer rallies with her strong baseline play. Collins had no power in her strokes and she took a medical while trailing 4-0 in the final set. Despite the medical, her woes continued in the next game where Kenin broke her for the final time to take a 5-0 lead before ending it 6-0.
