Home favorite Caroline Garcia will contest in her first quarterfinal of the season on Friday at the Open 6eme-Sens Metropole de Lyon.
The third-seeded Frenchwoman will take a 1-0 career lead into her match against fifth-seed Alison Van Uytvanck. Garcia defeated the Belgian in three sets in their sole previous encounter during the Fed Cup last year.
Garcia's compatriot, Oceane Dodin faces top-seeded American
Sofia Kenin. The two will meet for the first time on the WTA Tour. Kenin had to
save a match point against Romanian qualifier Jacqueline Cristian in the previous round.
The Australian Open champion has looked shaky since winning the title, and will be looking to avoid an upset against the World No.130. Dodin has been impressive this week, as she is yet to drop a set in Lyon.
Seventh-seeded Russian Daria Kasatkina will meet Italy's Camila Giorgi, with both women vying for their first semifinal of the season.
Slovakian Viktoria Kuzmova faces Germany's Anna-Lena Friedsam for the final semifinal spot. Kuzmova won their sole encounter in Linz in 2017, although Friedsam has not dropped a set the entire tournament.
