The 2020 World Team Tennis season is in full swing, as each team attempts to build off to a strong start.
The Philadelphia Freedoms have finished the last two consecutive regular seasons in first place. They kicked off their 2020 campaign with a 25-16 victory over the Orange County Breakers at The Greenbrier.
The Freedoms were represented by Fabrice Martin and
Taylor Townsend in Mixed Doubles. They defeated the Breakers team of Andreja Klepac and Luke Bambridge 5-3 with a dominant serving performance.

Sofia Kenin then made her league debut, defeating Jennifer Brady 5-3 after squandering a 4-0 lead. The Freedoms had to take a timeout at 4-3 to help Kenin calm her nerves, but the 21-year old was able to pull out the victory.
“I’m just super happy I started off really well. I felt like I played well overall and she of course picked up her game, but I was able to close it out,” Kenin said. “Billie Jean King reached out to me and asked me to play for her team, so I was super excited and honored."
The Men's doubles saw Martin and
Taylor Fritz earn a 5-4(4) win over Bambridge and
Steve Johnson, giving Philadelphia a 15-10 lead heading into halftime. This was followed by another win for the Freedoms as Caroline Dolehide teamed with Townsend to beat Klepac and Brady 5-3 in the fourth set of the match.
Fritz closed out the day with a 5-3 win over Johnson to seal the victory for Philadelphia, exacting some revenge in the process. The World No.24 lost to his compatriot at the DraftKings
All-American Team Cup in Atlanta a week ago.
