Kim Clijsters has announced that she will not return to tennis just yet, postponing it for at least 3-6 weeks.
Kim Clijsters has been attempting a comeback to tennis and while she already played some matches it did not go as well as she had planned. She is yet to play this season in part due to several unfortunate things happening. She explained the reasons for the postponement in a Twitter statement she released today.
In it, she explained what had happened since she last played. Firstly she underwent knee surgery in October to repair damage to the knee and reduce pain which went successful. Unfortunately, she was diagnosed with COVID-19 in January which completely derailed her plans.
While the illness was thankfully only mild it did affect her training and preparation for the season and after undergoing an intense practice schedule in the past weeks she is not yet ready to return to tennis and compete on the highest level. She once again reiterated her commitment to the cause and promised not the quit. She also thanked Miami Open and Charleston Open for the wild card opportunities.
In the end, she summarised her plans going forward which include a pain management program in the next 3-6 weeks before deciding on what to do next. So we will not see Kim Clijsters on the courts for at least the next 6 weeks. Hopefully, all goes well and we see the former Champ back soon.
