Title hunting in Seoul 🦸 Top seed @DKasatkina navigates her way past Shnaider and will face Haddad Maia for all the marbles in Sunday's final! #KoreaOpen
Action continues at the WTA 500 Korea Open with the finalists set after a double matchday in Seoul. Victories from Daria Kasatkina and Beatriz Haddad Maia will have them facing each other on Sunday for the title, while Emma Raducanu’s retirement steals the spotlight. Due to tournament schedule delays, both the quarterfinals and semifinals were played on Saturday.
In the morning session, Victoria Kudermetova defeated Viktoriya Tomova, while Haddad Maia beat Polina Kudermetova, Victoria's sister, both wins in straight sets. First seed Kasatkina had no trouble against Raducanu, taking the first set 6-1 before the former US Open champion retired due to a foot injury. Later, Diana Shnaider secured a tight victory over Marta Kostyuk.
All semifinalists were required to play again in the afternoon after their morning matches, although all had secured straight-set victories (with the exception of Kasatkina, who only played one set). In the all-Russian clash, Kasatkina defeated Shnaider 6-3, 6-4, while later, Haddad Maia dismissed the elder Kudermetova 6-4, 6-4 to advance to the final.
The Brazilian was a finalist at this tournament back in 2017 but lost to Jelena Ostapenko, who had just won the French Open a few months prior. Meanwhile, Kasatkina will be playing her 5th WTA 500 final of the season, having only secured the title in Eastbourne. If she wins, she’ll return to the top 10 after 14 months.
