Barbora Krejcikova extended her fabulous run at Roland Garros with a great win over teen phenom Coco Gauff 7-6(6) 6-1.
It was one hell of a first set between Barbora Krejcikova and Coco Gauff with the Czech player emerging victorious in the set and in the match. It started well for Gauff who seemed like the more composed player initially. Krejcikova lost her serve in her first service game by committing a double fault on a break point.
Gauff took the 3-0 lead but Krejcikova would come back to make it 3-3 finally getting into rhythm. Gauff took the lead amidst some stellar play and served for the set at 5-3. A dip in focus cost her as she lost that game with her next chances coming at 6-5 and Krejcikova serving.
Once again she could not get the job done and we went to the tiebreak where Krejcikova emerged victorious after a great battle. Gauff squandered 5 set points in total in the match which completely destroyed her confidence for the rest of the match.
In the 3rd set, she was rushing in points and committing mistake after mistake with Krejcikova taking a double break lead. Gauff made a little bit of a run after going down 0-5 to make it 3-5 but Krejcikova closed it out with 6-3.
A great match from Gauff but one that will teach her a lot as she practically gave it away. Krejcikova moves on to the French Open semifinal which is a career-best result for her at the event.
