Barbora Krejcikova and Katerina Siniakova justified their number one seed position a the WTA Finals by winning the doubles trophy at the event.
The Czech pairing arrived in Mexico in good spirits after a solid outing with the Czech Team at the Billie Jean King Cup Finals. Trying to finish off their good season with a huge trophy the pair played some smashing tennis in the event easily reaching the semifinals. They moved to the finals where they faced Mertens and Hsieh.
It was an entertaining match but for the most part, the Czech pairing had no issues winning the match. They controlled it from the start and their opponents did not really have a chance. Mertens and Hsieh battled bravely but the Czech's were simply better winning their first WTA Finals trophy together. On the win Krejcikova said:
"I think it was a really good day for us. I think we did everything the best way we could. I was really happy that our game style was working and that everything we said was working. I just think that we were a really good team out there today."
She further added:
"It's very, very special to get the trophy from Martina [Navratilova], who we look up to. She is a really big hero for us. The whole day was just amazing. I really enjoyed it. Yeah, now holidays!"
Her partner Siniakova said:
"This week was really good for us. I think we needed to stay aggressive, and we did it. We were really playing well. We keep the team spirit, so we were just trying, we fight. I'm just really happy that we have the trophy."
