Petra Kvitova won her 28th career title in Doha on Sunday improving her overall finals record to 28-10.
It was truly a dominant display from the Czech who smashed Garbine Muguruza 6-2 6-1 in the final to his her 2nd Qatar Open trophy. After her victory, she joined the WTA Insider podcast to talk things over. She was first asked what was the key to her victory to which she said:
"I think it's been pretty different, I would say. Two matches I played in normal conditions and another two with very windy conditions. I came here without the coaches as well, just being here with my friend, which even in the past I won some tournaments without my coaches. So that's pretty funny, I would say. But of course, I've been in touch with them and it feels a little bit different."
Speaking of the difficult conditions she reflected on her match against Pegula where the wind was very strong:
"With Jessica [Pegula] yesterday, it wasn't about the tennis, it was about the wind. I think it was really bothering both of us. It was a lot of slices as well, which I'm not normally playing that much. It was tough to go to the net. Serves as well. We couldn't make aces. It was just a little bit different, I would say."
The title ended a lengthy drought for Kvitova who did not win a trophy since 2019. Speaking about that she said it meant a lot to her:
"Well, it means a lot because as I mentioned, it's been a little bit longer, probably, that I would love to have another title. It means a lot, showing myself that I can still compete with the best and win it. Of course, I was in the semifinal in the French Open, but to have the title is a different story."
