The day in Russia will begin with a match between the successful qualifier Alizé Cornet and the sixth-seeded Maria Sakkari. Cornet did not lose a set yet in her 3 appearances in St Petersburg and she will try to win the first match against Sakkari as she lost the first two in 2017. The winner of the match will meet the first-seeded Belinda Bencic in the next round.
Petra Kvitova will make her first appearance on the courts since losing in the quarterfinal of Australian Open to Ashleigh Barty. In the second round in St Petersburg, she will meet Alisson Van Uytvanck who defeated Kristina Mladenovic previously.
Donna Vekic and Ekaterina Alexandrova will take care of another interesting matchup during the fourth day. Alexandrova helped her country to reach the 2020 Fed Cup Finals in the recent weeks. Vekic took a few weeks of rest after the Australian Open and so any of these players can become the quarterfinalist in Russia.
The day in St Petersburg will be finished by the second-seeded Kiki Bertens. Despite winning both singles matches in Fed Cup qualifiers, Bertens did not manage to push her country into the finals and so she will be looking to correct her tastes in Russia. In the second round, she will meet Veronika Kudermetova who had a streak of 4 lost matches before entering the draw at the Ladies Trophy.
