Leylah Fernandez is through to the Quarter-Finals of the Jiangxi Open after seeing off Xiaodi You in the Last 16 in Nanchang on Friday morning.
Fernandez won the Hong Kong Open last week for her first title in almost 600 days after not winning since the 2022 Monterrey Open.
But the Canadian who is also on a ranking ascent again after sliding post US Open could add another notch to that with back-to-back titles to end the season.
It was dominance for Fernandez who won it 6-4, 6-1. She broke early in the first but then lost her serve comfortably at 4-4. Only to take it straight back. It was then a fairly comfortable set hold.
Before a comfortable second set. Breaking at 1-0, 3-0, 5-0 and to win it at 6-1, the only game she lost was on her serve at 5-0 up as she was on the verge of a bagel and was the only service game she was relatively troubled barring at 4-0 when she came from 40-15 down to close it out.
She broke back though to win it, but it will be a quick turnaround for her Quarter-Final. Due to Nanchang getting rained off yesterday, she will play Aliaksandra Sasnovich in only a few hours.
It could be a repeat of the Hong Kong final in the semi-finals post that with Katerina Siniakova facing Laura Siegemund.
