Somewhat of a bizarre situation happened yesterday at
Roland Garros when
Leylah Fernandez skipped over the post-match press conference due to a foot injury sustained in the match.
Fernandez took a medical timeout fairly early in the match for a foot issue that was treated with heavy bandages and a pill most likely to numb the pain. She went on to continue the match but lost in three sets. At times during the match she was seen limping a bit avoiding putting her full weight on the foot and she did not take part in the press conference.
The French Tennis Federation released a statemenet saying:
"Unfortunately Leylah Fernandez will not be able to undertake her media commitments today on the advice of the tournament medical team due to a right foot injury sustained in the match against Martina Trevisan."
It's not a common practice because the injury did not seem that severe but it seems like there were some problems that needed to be taken care of immediately. The timing is not great with Wimbledon around the corner but time will tell how severe the injury is.
