For the first time in 20 years, three American women are ranked in the top-6 after Madison Keys reached her best-ever ranking at No. 6. She joins Coco Gauff (No. 3) and Jessica Pegual (No. 5) in a great moment for U.S. women's representatives.
While Keys did not play any tournaments this week, Elena Rybakina lost points after falling in the semifinals of the Abu Dhabi Open (she had reached the final last season). This moved Keys up to No. 6 just one week shy of her 30th birthday.
The American made a surprise at the Australian Open to win her first major title, more than 7 years after her first Grand Slam final at US Open 2017 against Sloane Stephens. This time she beat world No. 1 Aryna Sabalenka in the final.
The world No. 6 is on a 12-0 run at the start of 2025 after winning the WTA 500 Adelaide International and conquering Melbourne.
The last time three players were this high was in early March 2004 - even before the birth of Coco Gauff. At that time Lindsay Daveport (No. 4), Jennifer Capriati (No. 5) and Serena Williams (No. 6) were the only American representatives. She joins Chanda Rubin who was at world No. 9 at the time.
