Madison Keys out as Garcia, Kasatkina, and Zheng shine on Day Two of WTA Elite Trophy

Day Two of the WTA Elite Trophy took place on Wednesday, October 25 at the Hengqin International Tennis Center in Zhuhai, China, with Caroline Garcia, Daria Kasatkina, and Qinwen Zheng scoring wins in their group stages.

However, the day began with Madison Keys being eliminated from the season-ending championship. The American entered the tournament as the second seed but lost her first match in the Camellia group yesterday against Beatriz Haddad Maia.

Today, she took on Garcia in her second group stage clash but lost in straight sets. The French player won the first set 6-3 before edging ahead to take the second on a tiebreak, 7-6 (3). This means that Keys is the first player out of the competition.

In the Azalea group, Kasatkina faced top seed Barbora Krejcikova, the latter of whom had pulled off a straight-sets win against Magda Linette the day before. Today though, the Czech player ended up on the losing side of a three-set battle.

Kasatkina secured the first set 7-5, before Krejcikova fought back to win the second 6-1. However, the Russian was not done yet, and she echoed this dominance in the final set to win the match 7-5, 1-6, 6-1 after two hours and ten minutes. She will face Linette on Friday, October 27, while Krejcikova will wait to see if she has done enough to qualify for the semi-finals.

Finally, in the Orchid group, Qinwen Zheng faced Donna Vekic in another three-set thriller. The home player lost the tiebreak in the second set but came back to secure the match in the decider, winning 6-4, 6-7 (6), 6-4.
