With the 2025 WTA season barely a month in, American tennis star Peyton Stearns already has two unwelcome records to her name.

The 23-year old has been part of some of the longest matches on tour this season, having to work for over three hours in two matches this year. Although most tennis players would like to end matches as quickly as possible, Stearns had the misfortune of going the distance in two lung-busting encounters.

Stearns unable to seal the deal in both matches

The longest match of the young 2025 season thus far saw Russian tennis star Daria Kasatkina take on Stearns in the fourth round at the Brisbane International. In a match that saw both ladies leave their all on the court, Kasatkina recorded a 7-6(7) 4-6 7-5 victory in three hours and 22 minutes.

The American would again be forced into another marathon encounter, when she battled Emma Navarro in the first round of the Australian Open. Stearns would again fail to record the victory, winning the opening set but eventually falling to her compatriot, who escaped with a 6-7(5) 7-6(5) 7-5 win in three hours and 20 minutes.

The third longest match of the 2025 WTA season saw China's Xinyu Wang take on Swiss veteran Jil Teichmann in the quarterfinals of the Singapore Tennis Open. Wang would prevail with a 6-7(5) 7-6(5) 6-4 win after an exhausting three hours and 19 minutes.
