Maria Sakkari keeps on winning tennis matches as the Greek player rolled past Petra Kvitova 6-3 6-0 to move on at BNP Paribas Open Indian Wells.
It's been a good year for Sakkari who broke out officially last year with a mammoth season that saw her debut at the WTA Finals. She's continuing this trend in Indian Wells playing some smashing tennis in conditions that allow her to play her best. Kvitova certainly doesn't enjoy Indian Wells too much and it was quite evident from the start that this will be a tough match to win.
Sakkari was ready for anything and quite quickly established control of the match. She won the first set with 6-3 saving both break points she faced while winning all 16 points after hitting her first serve. It was truly a majestic performance by the Greek who played even better in the 2nd set.
Kvitova fell apart early in the 2nd set losing her serve two times to give Sakkari the 4-0 lead. The Greek player wrapped it up with 6-0 giving Kvitova a bagel of a parting gift. Kvitova did not have a great day serving committing several double faults. She particularly struggled on her 2nd serve and that was simply too much against the world number 6.
