Emma Raducanu's first Grand Slam back has concluded at the second round stage at the 2024
Australian Open after defeating to Chinese ace Yafan Wang who will face Qinwen Zheng in the third round in all Chinese tie.
Raducanu was defeated 6-4, 4-6, 6-4 by the World Number 94 and wasn't herself throughout the tie seemingly struggling physically and at one point having her blood pressure checked on court. It looked even likely that she was going to potentially retire after going 2-0 down in the final set.
But the former US Open champion battled despite having nausea and sickness issues so at least on the bright side for fans of the Brit, she isn't suffering with any sort of injuries and it is likely more the rigours of a return to the court.
Wang herself seemed to have some cramp problems on match point as the tie lasted nearly three hours. What could've been a Brit v Brit as Katie Boulter faced Qinwen Zheng in a losing effort earlier is now an all Chinese battle as the latter the current Number One faces the Raducanu victor for a spot in the second week.
Qinwen Zheng will be favoured to win the tie and will now see a route through with the draw opening up due to the departure of Jessica Pegula. It will be Oceane Dodin v Clara Burel in that section with the winner facing them in the fourth round for a spot in the Quarter-Finals.
