Mirra Andreeva has breached new ground on Thursday morning seeing off Arina Rodionova in a stunning display 6-1, 6-1 to reach the Quarter-Finals of the
Brisbane International, a first for the 16-year-old on the WTA tour.
Andreeva was ultra impressive in 2023 and the first tournament of the season saw the draw open up for the teen prodigy to win through to the latter stages and she took that chance against the Russian born Aussie who saw off Sofia Kenin in the last round who was one of the main big names to fall.
As well as Kenin, Liudmila Samsonova also lost out to Andreeva as well as Diana Shnaider in the opening round with Andreeva in no time to mess around in particular against the latter as well as Rodionova losing minimal games in stunning fashion.
But for Rodionova, her time was up as Andreeva eased through winning all of her points on her first serve in the first set and she took it to her opponent's serve also. She created a total of nine break point opportunities with three converted and the hallmark of a dominant display is not facing one herself during that opening set.
She did in the second set facing one while leading 3-1. She saved it though and then went on to part more misery on her opponent by breaking again and surging towards the finishing line. Another teenager awaits who made strides last year in Australia in Linda Noskova, a kind draw for either player to reach the semi-finals in Brisbane.
