In one of the biggest wins of her career,
Katie Boulter who continues to get better and better may have handed a route to the Quarter-Finals to Great Britain at the
United Cup.
Boulter saw off World No.5,
Jessica Pegula in her return to action for the 2024 season 5-7, 6-4, 6-4 from 3-0 down in the second set albeit with Cameron Norrie on the verge of defeat now against Taylor Fritz. A win would've handed the tie to Great Britain. But for Pegula, it was a frustrating start to her year.
She led by a set and a double-break before the World No.56 surged back into proceedings. Pegula did save three set points to take the opener so the return of Boulter wasn't wildly unexpected but still came as a shock.
Her momentum carried into the third in which Pegula was constantly pressure on serve and also capitulating at times with 71 unforced errors between the pair. Despite that though, Boulter weathered her own errors and found her way. Pegula then had to stay in the match and fight. She was up at 30-0 on 3-3 as she looked to lead the set, but instead of triple break point, Boulter hit four straight points.
Pegula got the break back, but lost her serve again but this time at 4-5 which meant Boulter got a match point which she produced with a superb lob winner followed by sealing the deal. It is a second big win of the week for Boulter with Great Britain seeing off Australia earlier on and victory was sealed there against Ajla Tomljanovic impressively.
