Tennis
players and fans are counting down the days until the start of the 2024 season.
The year will kick off with a mixed tournament in the 2024
United Cup between December 29 - January 7, a
competitive exhibition between countries featuring some of the world's best
tennis players, including both world No. 1s
Iga Swiatek and
Novak Djokovic.
It's not
often that countries have both male and female representatives together. Some
of the favorites include the Polish duo Swiatek and Hubert Hurkacz, the Greek
pair Maria Sakkari and Stefanos Tsitsipas, as well as the Canadian team of
Leylah Fernandez and Felix Auger-Aliassime.
Tournament
Format:
Eighteen
nations will participate in a round-robin format with six groups of three
countries each. Three groups will compete in Perth (A, C, and E), and the other
three in Sydney (B, D, and F), with the latter city hosting the final stage,
including the semifinals and final. Each series will feature a men's and
women's singles match, as well as mixed doubles, with the team winning two
matches taking the victory.
