Karolina Muchova is into the Last 16 of the 2024 US Open and made it look so effortless again in taking down Anastasia Potapova 6-4, 6-2.
Muchova who is defending semi-final points to avoid a huge ranking plummet will now face the finalist in the last two majors likely in Jasmine Paolini, the Italian flagbearer who continues to dazzle.
The Italian is currently a set and a break up on Yulia Putintseva and could set up a showdown with the Czech ace in what would be a battle of Muchova's epic serve and volley game.
Effortless tennis was on display again against Paolini's quick and zippy style with her match against Putintseva on paper dubbed a cup of coffee by some due to their livewire tendencies. But Muchova on one hand has not dropped a set all week and looks the best she has since her comeback to the sport.
After heartbreak over the last year which has seen the Roland Garros finalist go from being one of the world's best to having surgery soon after reaching the US Open semi-finals, it was a rocky road. But she has proven this week thus far that when she is on, she is still one of the world's best.
With Iga Swiatek on her side and likely being a latter stage meeting, the vulnerabilities of the Pole could be thwarted on a different surface to the clay that the World No.1 masters.
If Muchova gets that far at any rate but she proved today that she has the tools to certainly head towards defending those points. 13 winners proved that point to only six unforced errors.
For those fans of Muchova, a true delight to behold as she seals another win and heads towards a showdown with Paolini. What a match that could be.

- How is it not clear to pro tennis Elitists in charge that flooding the sport with more and more tournaments is NOT the answer? Such decisions made through PURE GREED disguised as "offering more up & coming players a chance to compete". This sport is, at the very foundation, a Business. Any corporate entity should know by now that introducing too many 'franchises' to a limited market is counterproductive to say the very least? And let us not forget the Top Athletes cannot be everywhere week-to-week no matter how much money the tourneys throw at them. Therefor you get a situation such as the US Open missing out on the Best-of-the-Best.
