China Open champion Coco Gauff responded to a user on X after being accused of having a ‘childish mentality.’ The American secured her second WTA 1000 title on Sunday, defeating Karolina Muchova in a commanding 6-1, 6-3 victory.
The 2023 US Open champion claimed her 8th WTA title, notably in her first tournament without her previous coach, Brad Gilbert. Gauff shared a celebratory photo on her Instagram stories after winning the title and took a jab at the trolls: “sHe OnLy wInS 250s... well.... WOMP WOMP."
However, some users didn’t take Gauff’s post kindly. On X, user @hazvlou reposted the photo and captioned it: "Coco has the mentality of a 5-year-old, I’m sorry.”
Gauff surprised everyone by directly replying to the post: "Honestly, kids have the best outlook on life. They are so positive and creative. So I’ll take it (heart emoji). My goal this tournament was to play and enjoy tennis as much as I did when I was a kid because that’s when life was/is the most fun!”
Later, a user named @ngutenista commented on the tweet and also received a response from Gauff: “Coco, I love you but please enjoy your win and get off Twitter ❤️.”
"I love you too! I’m bored and procrastinating on packing,” wrote the 2023 US Open champion. “I don’t even have the app downloaded, I use it on the website to avoid spending too much time on it, but every now and then I like to pop in and see what’s poppin lol.”
