Madison Keys came back to win against Qiang Wang and she explained after the match what allowed her to turn it around.
Madison Keys entered the Australian Open in stellar form but things did not go well in the first set against Wang. Not playing close to her usual level, Keys made a lot of mistakes in the set that she surrendered to Wang 4-6. Asked what happened going forward that allowed her to win the match, Keys simply said:
"At the beginning of the second set, I just kind of thought, ‘Well, I might as well just swing, I’m already down a set. Might as well see if this works.’
Going on a bit more in depth, she said:
"I was just really trying to keep giving myself the opportunity to get back into the match, and then once I was able to do that, in the third set I think we both really raised our levels, and played a really, really close match. I think in the tiebreak, I kind of blacked out and it was some of my best tennis."
Things don't get any easier for Keys who will face Paula Badosa in the 4th round. The American hasn't gone this deep in an event for a very long time so she will cherish the opportunity. Both players are in great form and it should be a spectacle for fans.
