Russia’s Mirra Andreeva has achieved yet another milestone while taking part at the Indian Wells. The mega-event is currently moving towards the business end, where the remaining players are giving their all to secure the ultimate prize.
Andreeva is also taking part in the mega-event and has booked her place in the round of 16 after beating Denmark’s Clara Tauson in straight sets with a score of 6-3, 6-0. While doing so, she became the youngest player in seven years to reach the round of 16 at the Indian Wells. In 2018, America’s Amanda Anisimova reached the fourth-round of the competition at the age of just 16.
The performance of Andreeva at Indian Wells is the continuation of her recent impressive run, in which she lifted her maiden WTA title to the highest level. She won the Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championship after beating Tauson in the final in straight sets with a score of 7-6, 6-1. Before that, she also played in the semifinal of the Brisbane International where she lost to reigning world number one Aryna Sabalenka in straight sets with a score of 6-3, 6-2.
Andreeva will now face Kazakhstan’s Elena Rybakina in the round of 16 clash. The 25-year-old cemented her spot in the fourth round of the mega-event after beating Britain’s Katie Boulter in straight sets with a score of 6-0, 7-5. It will be the third meeting between the two players. In the previous two meetings, both players emerged victorious on one occasion. Their first meeting was in the third round of the China Open in 2023, where Rybakina came out on top with a score of 2-6, 6-4, 6-1. Their most recent meeting was in the semifinal of the Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championship, where Andreeva came out on top with a score of 6-4, 4-6, 6-3.
