Teen tennis phenom Mirra Andreeva was fresh off a winning streak that saw her win Dubai, Indian Wells and then defeat Veronika Kudermetova at the Miami Open. But it stopped there as she lost to Amanda Anisimova on Sunday. Then came the dark side as she unveiled vile abuse on her Instagram story.

The 17-year-old Russian went down 7-6(5), 2-6, 6-3 in favour of the American in a match that courted drama in many ways both in terms of the action and also 'Blister-gate' which saw Anisimova take an MTO during Andreeva's service game saying she couldn't hold her racquet.

Andreeva said 'we all know why' inferring that it was a way to derail her momentum, Anisimova went onto win and threw shade on her Instagram story referencing the incident and also Andreeva's first set MTO. But for Andreeva, it was a different kind of shade and an unwanted one at that.

Her 13-match winning streak came to an end and she was flooded with hate comments all over her Instagram feed. In a now deleted post, she captioned the screenshot: 'And this is what you get when you lose 1 match'.

Abuse included "One of the worst players ever" as well as "You look like a man, WTF. Deserve worst cancc3r exist."

Previously the WTA warned that the number of female stars affected by this torrent of abuse is rising and urged social media bosses to make the platform safer. One a weekly basis players share harrowing screenshots including death threats mainly in a lot of cases after these people lose bets.

Which no doubt would've happened given that Andreeva was on a 13-match winning run which took in wins over Iga Swiatek, Aryna Sabalenka and Elena Rybakina among others. But that ended at the hands of the recent Doha champion and no doubt hurting after such a result, Andreeva returned to even worse on her phone.
