The 2023 Roland Garros has seen some crazy matches but none of them live up to the one Sebastian Baez and Gael Monfils played with the latter winning in five sets.
Gael Monfils has dealt with a lot of injuries in his career so his not being able to play often at the age of 36 is not a huge surprise to anyone. He's been dealing with injuries this year as well only winning a couple of matches leading up to Roland Garros. Some of his best moments in his career came at Roland Garros and this will certainly rank among them.
Monfils was up 2-1 in sets when Baez started his comeback smashing the French player in the 4th set comfortably. The 5th set saw him jump out to a 4-0 lead with the win basically in the bag however Monfils had something to say about that.
Improbable comeback
Monfis managed to complete a totally crazy and improbable comeback battling back and pulling the double break back ultimately winning the match. It was a crazy finish with the French player dedicating the win to his daughter 'Skai'. Monfils is married to fellow player Elina Svitolina and they became parents for the first time last year.
