Former world number one
Naomi Osaka has leapt more than 450
more places in the WTA Rankings despite withdrawing from the upcoming event.
The 26-year-old withdrew from the upcoming WTA 1000 event in
Abu Dhabi. Despite that news, Osaka is set to leap more than 450 places because
of her impressive performances in Doha.
The Osaka-born had a more than impressive outing in the ongoing
Qatar Open where her journey eventually came to an end after losing in the quarterfinal
to Karolina Pliskova in straight sets with a score of 7-6, 7-6.
After her exit, Osaka, in a post on her official account on
social media platform X — previously known as Twitter — expressed her love for
the city and expressed optimism that she will return to play again next year.
“Doha you are absolutely one of the most beautiful cities
I’ve ever been to. It’s been an absolute pleasure playing here, thank you for
all the support. Love you and I’ll see you next year,” she wrote.
The outing in Doha was indeed a positive one for Osaka,
especially after a disappointing performance in the first Grand Slam of the
year — the Australian Open — where she was knocked out after losing in the first round
to Caroline Garcia with a score of 6-4, 7-6.
