Danielle Collins opened up in an interview with Mansion Global about the challenges of the demanding WTA schedule and the things she misses most while competing around the world.
For Collins, the physical and mental toll of the tour makes her miss several things, including “being away from family and friends.” The World No. 12 finished the 2024 season with a 38-17 record and two titles to her name.
“The weeks on the road are physically and mentally demanding. And I miss my New England coffee ritual. I have a built-in Miele coffee machine, which is an investment. There’s not much I can accomplish without coffee, and I drink it all day long. My Miele makes phenomenal coffee.”
Due to the demanding schedule and extensive travel, the WTA No. 12 had initially planned to retire in 2024 to become a mother. However, she postponed that decision after an outstanding season in which she claimed her first WTA 1000 title at the Miami Open and returned to the top 10 at the age of 30. The American was diagnosed with endometriosis in 2021, a condition that affects her fertility.
One of Collins’ biggest emotional supports is her dog, Quincy, who has even accompanied her to tournaments like the Miami Open. “I love bringing people together. I love spending time with my dog. Quincy—Mr. Q. Oh wow. So many people. Yes, so many people. No, Mr. Q. He made his debut at the Miami Open as an MVP and um… and Charleston.”
She also spoke about the role her dog plays in her routine: “He stole the show in front of the cameras. After winning the tournament, I love spending time with him—I cook homemade meals for him. I make him salmon, sweet potatoes, chicken with peas, all kinds of things. He’s a very spoiled gentleman.”
Collins has not played a match since the Australian Open, where she lost in the third round to eventual champion Madison Keys, 4-6, 4-6. The American is expected to make her return at the Indian Wells Masters 1000.
