Garbine Muguruza got her
Roland Garros campaign underway with a victory while Kerber is going after losing to Juvan in straight sets.
Garbine Muguruza started her Roland Garros campaign with a match against Tamara Zidansek and the match was much tougher than she anticipated. The match started well for Zidansek who took an early lead after breaking Garbine but she didn't hold it for long. Muguruza turned it completely around some games later before forfeiting the lead as well. At 5-5 she stepped up and won the next two games to clinch the set 7-5.
The 2nd set wasn't as good for Muguruza who allowed Zidansek to break her three times in the set. It was a set full of twists and turns but poor playing on her serve cost Muguruza too much and she surrendered the set 6-4. The final set didn't bring much joy for the Spaniard either as she fell behind quickly. She fought back eventually to make it 3-3 after which neither player could take over. Eventually, Muguruza broke through before ending the match with a strong service game 8-6.
Angelique Kerber had hoped for a good run at the Roland Garros but it ended before it even started properly. Her opponent was Kaja Juvan from Slovenia who can be tricky on clay and today she proved more than tricky. The German started well but as the set went on looked more and more uncomfortable on the court. Juvan seized the chance a broke her a 4-3 to take a 5-3 lead before clinching the set 6-3.
The 2nd set wasn't much better for Kerber who still looked miserable on the court especially when serving where one good point was followed by three bad ones. The hot and cold showing was unexpected but Juvan didn't care much for it as she broke Kerber 4 times to win the set with 6-3.
