Garbiñe Muguruza put in a commanding performance to defeat current world no 5 Elina Svitolina and progress to the fourth round of the Australia Open.
The Spaniard beat
Elina Svitolina in two sets to reach the fourth round of the Australian Open for the fifth time.
Garbine Muguruza wasn't at 100% in the game as she has been dealing with a virus. However, she's pleased with her fighting spirit as she won a difficult game when she wasn't at her best.
"It's definitely a good sign for me when you don't feel good and you manage to win matches and compete. Even if you're not feeling great, there's always a chance there. You just have to find your way," Muguruza said.
“I'm pleased with my fighting spirit and accepting many situations that are not on your side sometimes.”
The current world no 32 credited her incredible performance to focus and concentration. She also said things went her way as Svitolina took the game to her side.
"I was very concentrated and focused on what I had to do. Everything went pretty quickly my way, so I’ll take it,” she said after the clash. We always have good matches, so I was really looking forward to playing her.
“I played a very good match. I managed to stop her and took the match to my side, which I’m very happy about."
Muguruza will play Kiki Bertens in the fourth round of the Australian Open.
