Garbine Muguruza battled back against
Aryna Sabalenka while Jil Belen Teichmann won over Coco Guaff in Dubai.
A spectacular quarterfinal matchup was played today between Garbine Muguruza and Aryna Sabalenka. It was a repeat of the same match played a week ago in Doha and once again it was the same result with Muguruza winning 2-1. The match lasted just under two hours and saw Muguruza come and win 3-6 6-3 6-2. The opening set was a close one but Sabalenka found ways to battle past the defense of Muguruza and win the opening set. In the next two sets, Muguruza handled the pressure extremely well forcing an absurd amount of errors by Aryna which proved her demise. Her impressive fitness also shinned in a very physical match.
Joining her in the semifinal will be Jil Belen Teichman who played another great match against
Coco Gauff beating her 6-3 6-3. The recipe for Teichmann was simple, keep the rallies going and attack when receiving a short ball. It worked to perfection as Gauff tried to be aggressive but she could barely string together several great shots. Usually, a winner was followed by an error or several of them. She could not rely on her serve to bail her out as Teichmann returned it very well. All in all a well-exexuted tactic and experience proved too difficult to handle for Gauff today.
